The Music of Queen
- Joseph Clark 25 November 2006
Joseph Clark - The Music of Queen is a selection of
Queen's music, powerfully performed by Joseph Clark. Joseph has become
known amongst South African audiences for his interpretations of Queen's
music and even if you have never been a fan of Queen, this is the show
to convert you, with classics like We Will Rock You, Another One Bites
The Dust, We are the Champions, I Want to Break Free, Under Pressure,
Who Wants To Live Forever and Bohemian Rhapsody.
In his 2004 European tour, Clark had audiences on their
feet, every single night, leaving his new fans screaming for more with
his powerful renditions of some of the greatest rock songs and breathtaking
ballads ever written.
Each performance has left audiences through Southern
Africa, Germany and Italy screaming for more.
Nataniël 02 December 2006
Nataniël has become
a regular performer at the Amphiteatre over the years, and is certain
to once again mesmerise the audience with his magical mix of mirth and
music, supported by some great musicians.
South-African singer/songwriter/entertainer, Nataniël
launched his solo career in 1987 with the release of his first single,
Maybe Time. Since then he has released 13 albums, staged more than 50
original theatre productions and published 10 books. Over the past decade
he has not only established himself as producer, director, designer, playwright
and public speaker, but as South Africa's leading exponent of the solo
stage act. An outspoken and controversial figure, he continuously crosses
over from the alternative circuit to the main stage, generating extensive
media coverage and a massive cult following. Nataniël manages Kaalkop
Trading, his lifestyle manufacturing company, and records on his own independent
label, Nataniël House Of Music.
DNA Strings 09 December 2006
DNA STRINGS will take you on a mesmerizing and uplifting
musical journey that will have you tapping your feet long after the lights
have faded...
DNA Strings have been performing since 2000. Their style
of music can be described by the following phrases/words: Folk-Rock ,
Afro-Spanish , Afro-Celtic. The music, of which the essence is captured
in their live shows, can be described as pulsating, energetic, uplifting,
passionate and powerful. Due to the fact that the music is not limited
to one style, genre or culture only, they have a fan base ranging from
the youngest to the oldest, and they are a smash hit wherever they perform.
Both their CD’s, Nomad and El Niño, have
been well received by audiences and critics alike.
Stef Bos 15 December 2006
16 December 2006
Nary a pin will drop as STEF BOS draws you into his
highly personal and astoundingly clever world of words and music.
Singing and playing in the forest before was such a
great experience for him, that Stef Bos, acclaimed Dutch cabaret artist,
balladeer, poet and performer, will be returning to the Paul Cluver Forest
Amphitheatre for two magical concerts.
Bos is known for his uncomplicated philosophies and
poignant, moving stage performances.
Arno Carstens 06 January 2007
Accustomed
to rock stadiums, Arno Carstens appears for one memorable performance
at another kind of stadium, the beautiful setting of the Paul Cluver Forest
Amphitheatre, on Saturday 6 January 2007.
After his huge success as front man for the Springbok
Nude Girls, Carstens makes his solo debut with a brand new collection
of plugged and unplugged songs at the Amphitheatre. Band mates Albert
Frost, the guitar legend, and the progressive Brendan Jury add layers
of musical depth to Carstens rich and soulful voice.
With lyrics that explore emotional landscapes and the realities of modern
lifestyles, Carstens new songs show a new, more mature approach to his
brand of alternative rock but with the same trademark vocal delivery,
haunting and powerful.
For one night only, after a sold out, roller-coaster
of a show at the Amhitheatre early in 2006, Arno returns triumphantly
with his potent band
Watershed 27 January 2007
WATERSHED has travelled a long and hugely successful
road since their inception in 1998. From playing in clubs the size of
a shoebox in Johannesburg to sell-out international shows and television
audiences of World Cup proportions, Watershed has paved a path that is
worthy of reverence, their chemistry and magic as addictive as their melodies.
Great music has legs, and these guys are clearly in
full sprint.Their race is a sought after marathon, it’s distance
not specified, but with their street smarts and capacity Watershed are
winners. They write songs, almost all of which are staples of greatness
and in the process continue to affirm the fact that Watershed is, without
doubt, the musical epitome of endurance designed to go the extra mile.
Handful of Keys 03 February 2007
Ian
von Memerty and Roelof Colyn, stars of one of the very best and highly
acclaimed shows this country has ever seen, will make the Amphitheatre
a very special place to be on 3 February.
This hilarious two-man piano show conceived and starring
Ian von Memerty and Bryan Schimmell, began in 1994 – and for the
next 3 years played for over 300 performances to over 100 000 people.
Garnering reviews that producers dream about and collecting box office
queues that their bank managers fantasize about still.
In 2001 – it entered its second incarnation –
again starring Ian von Memerty, but this time along the unknown Roelof
Colyn, who enjoyed a massive success in the show. The show toured nationally,
and to London and Australia (twice). Again the audiences and critics were
ecstatic, and the audiences poured in, in ever increasing numbers. Another
3 years, another 300 performances and the show was seen by another 100
000 people.
And now in 2006 – Ian von Memerty, who has long
since left the show with Jeremy Quickfall taking his place, will be joining
Roelof Colyn for one night only at the Paul Cluver Amphitheatre on February
3rd.
Do not miss this once in long while opportunity to catch
the team that have done the most shows together, and who have successfully
performed this spell binding show on three continents.

DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN is ‘n humoristiese eksplorasie
“Dit maak tog altyd so ‘n groot
verskil as jy teater kan ervaar in jou eie huistaal.”

Cape Welsh and Tygerberg Children's
Choir 17 February 2007
CAPE WELSH CHOIR
25 years of Singing for Pleasure and Good Causes
The Cape Welsh Choir was formed in 1982 by the late
Rosa Salmon, with 9 men, and has grown to nearly 40 members since then.
We have completed over 600 concerts in those 25 years and raised in excess
of R3,0m for various deserving causes and in 2006 has been granted official
status as a Non-Profit Organization.
Our Choir comprises some 38 men from very diverse origins.
We have men from Italy, Switzerland, England, Ireland, South Africa, and
of course, Wales. The one common denominator is a love of singing in the
Welsh Male Voice tradition.
The concerts include traditional Welsh hymns, songs
from shows, opera numbers and Afrikaans and Xhosa pieces.
THE TYGERBERG CHILDREN'S CHOIR
After a triumphant tour to England, Scotland and Wales
in 2006, where they obtained first place in the Folklore Division and
third place in the Senior Children's Choir division of the Llangollen
International Music Eisteddfod in Wales, the Tygerberg Children's Choir
will perform along with the Cape Welsh Choir, for the very first time
in the magical setting of the Amphitheatre. This concert promises to be
a feast of choral music of the highest enjoyment and calibre.
The Tygerberg Children's Choir has been under the excellent
leadership of Hennie Loock, with Theresa Loock as accompanist and arranger
for 34 glorious years. They will present a varied programme consisting
not only of the songs that won them the accolades in Llangollen, e.g Pie
Jesu by Hendrik Hofmeyr, the exciting Czech mountain song Hoj Hura Hoj,
and folks songs Se Nkgatele Mosadi and My Hartjie my Liefie, but also
firm favourites such as Kiss the Girl from The Little Mermaid , Andrew
Lloyd Webber's Love Changes Everything and the poignant You Raise me Up.
Barry Hilton 03 March 2007
BARRY HILTON
“The Cousin”, has reached international
status as a stand-up comedian performing all over the world. Many agree
that he is, without a doubt, one of the top comedians South Africa has
ever seen.
Performing his original brand of South African humour,
his sell-out shows are proof of his popularity as “the cleanest”
comedian in the country. He entertains at the highest possible level without
barbed prejudice, snide racism or crude language.
Hilton is an icon and - as many other comedians may
agree - a role model in the entertainment industry. A celebrity for sure,
yet someone who does not like the title and this just proves his humbleness.
In his words he is “just a normal oke with a better job than you!”
A major attraction for garden lovers each year are the
